Program

Building confidence in Polish

Our Polish as a Second Language Program welcomes children in Grades 1–3 who are beginning to learn Polish or have limited speaking ability. Designed for children from Polish-speaking, bilingual, and mixed-language homes, the program helps students develop practical communication skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Children build vocabulary, listening comprehension, sentence structure, reading, writing, and confidence through stories, games, songs, conversation, creative projects, and hands-on activities. Instruction is adapted to each child’s Polish-language ability and individual readiness.

Throughout the school year, learning will be enriched through music instruction, seasonal celebrations, outings, special activities, and school-wide events. Repetition, encouragement, and meaningful practice help children use Polish more naturally while strengthening their connection to Polish culture and heritage.

What Children Will Experience Throughout the Year

Speaking, Reading & Writing

Children develop practical Polish through stories, conversation, reading, writing, vocabulary-building, and language games. Activities are adapted to each child’s ability, helping students understand and use Polish with growing confidence.

Creative Learning, Games & Discovery

Art, projects, role-play, games, and hands-on activities give children meaningful ways to practise Polish. These experiences support creativity, cooperation, problem-solving, and everyday communication.

Music, Movement & Polish Culture

Songs, rhythm, dance, and musical games make new language easier to remember and use. Dedicated music instruction, cultural activities, seasonal traditions, and celebrations are incorporated throughout the school year.

Learning Materials for School and Home

Children receive carefully selected textbooks and a custom workbook suited to their Polish-language ability and learning readiness. Both are used during class and at home to reinforce vocabulary, reading, writing, and communication skills. Materials are selected according to ability and readiness rather than age alone.

Textbooks

The “Uczę się czytać” series provides structured practice in Polish reading, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension. The textbooks are used during lessons and at home, combining stories, exercises, and practical activities that help children build literacy skills in Polish.

Workbook

Our custom workbook reinforces the themes and skills introduced in class. Children use it during lessons and continue selected activities at home, helping them practise vocabulary, reading, writing, and everyday communication with family support.

Outcomes

Throughout the year, children will build Polish vocabulary, listening comprehension, confidence in speaking, reading and writing skills, creativity, and social connections. Most importantly, they will develop a positive and lasting relationship with the Polish language and culture.
